Raw Materials Procurement Manager

An opportunity has arisen in the Purchasing and Supply team to manage the procurement of Raw Materials for the Aeropak manufacturing site, and third party finished goods manufacturers (where applicable). To ensure continuity of supply & understanding of the raw material marketplace.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Manage and develop a supplier base for raw materials to ensure minimum supply chain risk and best overall cost of supply, with due consideration for quality and favourable terms and conditions.
  • Develop and implement a strategy to ensure long term continuity of supply.
  • Drive cost savings and efficiencies in the procurement of raw materials.
  • Introduce potential new suppliers (in conjunction with the Pharmaceutical Development &Technical Support Manager).
  • Maintain the Company ERP system with respect to raw materials.
  • To maintain optimum stock levels of raw materials, to meet finished product production planning requirements.
  • To liaise with raw material suppliers regarding quality issues, leading to the satisfactory resolution of such issues & to ensure the building and maintaining of long-term supplier relationships.
  • Plan and co-ordinate activities within the RM team. Delegating tasks and supervising the Raw Materials Inventory Planner Buyer.
  • Ensure that the RM team works in an ethical manner and avoids potential conflict of interest.

Role Tasks:

  • Identify and purchase raw materials, basing decisions around the results of MRP and other factors, such as phasing requirements.
  • Ensuring stock meets Dermal Quality requirements.
  • Monitoring and forecasting inventory.
  • Specify purchase order quantities & delivery locations. Negotiate prices & lead times as required.
  • Ensure all necessary internal paperwork, as required by the MHRA and other bodies, is completed within required timescales.
  • Identify supplier risk and provide counter measures.
  • Implement a policy of continuous improvement in the supply of raw materials using whatever tools, KPIs, SLAs, etc. are necessary.
  • Ensure that all relevant system data is always correct and up to date.
  • Implement and maintain a targeted dual source strategy for raw materials where desirable/possible.
  • Work with third party finished goods manufacturers to leverage supply of raw materials.
  • Set and maintain safety stock parameters in IFS as required.
  • To create and maintain raw material codes in IFS.
  • Review pricing structures of raw materials across all finished goods manufacturers, where possible, to obtain the best price on total quantities purchased.
  • Review cost of goods as raw material prices change.
  • Provide input into the New Product Development process as required.
  • Regularly meet with representatives from suppliers, at Dermal, at supplier premises, remotely, or at exhibitions.
  • Be the first point of contact for supply issues.
  • Assist with supplier audits where required.
  • Advise on strategic purchasing as the situation warrants.
  • To approve invoices for P&S as required.
  • To maintain Aeropak costings spread sheet.
  • To liaise with supplier re supply issues and to resolve quality issues for raw materials.
  • Introduce suppliers to the business and maintain the Raw Material Supplier base including maintaining the Supplier Risk Assessment

Skills / Knowledge /Experience:

  • 2-5 years’ experience purchasing chemicals in a regulated manufacturing environment. (Pharmaceutical or possibly Food)
  • A good, clear communicator with good negotiation, problem solving, research, and analytical skills
  • Supplier management experience
  • Use of ERP based purchasing systems (IFS preferred)
  • Experience of change management
